Vieux Carré

1 ounce cognac
1 ounce rye whiskey
1 ounce of Carpano Antica Formula or other sweet vermouth
1/4 ounce Bénédictine (herbal liqueur based on brandy)
A touch of Peychaud's bitterness
A shot of Angostura bitters

Fill half a liter of glass with ice. Add all remaining ingredients and stir well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
